FOOT PAIN
Tom - a regular contributor and field gear consultant - found that out. For years Tom suffered from chronic foot pain. He describes his research and incredibly simple solution to chronic foot pain here. It literally improved his everyday life. If you suffer from foot pain, maybe this can help you too. "Growing up was - kind of painful. Don't get me wrong. My parents and upbringing were exemplary. And my childhood and teen years were very active good years. "But - my feet hurt. Constantly. All day, everyday. Day after day. Year after year - my feet hurt. And painfully. Mostly a heavy dull aching hurt along the balls of the feet. Sometimes with a much sharper almost burning pain on the ball of the small toes. And by days end - twisting burning aggravating spot pains. Right on the sole of the feet. Between the big toe joint and the ankle joint. "Foot pain was part of my everyday life.It didn't stop me. But it sure was a burden for a very long time! At about age 20, I got serious about solving the foot pain problem. I carefully studied the pain and analyzed the symptoms and causes. And realized I didn't have a foot problem. My problem was improper foot gear! That realization - and the direct positive action I took - changed my life for the better. That was back in 1980. I was in the Army. Stationed in Germany. In an old storybook town just made for long walks. And surrounded by big picturesque hills just made for day hiking. Now - I grew up wearing tennis shoes. Everyone did. Besides your sunday shoes, work and hunting boots, tennies were all there was. Sure they fit good and feel great in the store. But on cobblestone streets and sidewalks. And on the hiking paths and foresters trails in the big hills around that town in Germany - my old tennis-shoes were painfully inapproppriate. One thing about the Germans - they walk. And they hike. A lot. At least they did in 1980. And back then, they weren't wearing tennis shoes! But, they weren't wearing the 'classic' hiking / mountain climbing boots either. They wore a much lighter, all leather shoe / boot. Either an oxford or a chukka height. With a vibram - esque type tread. At first - I thought they looked kinda funny. But. Like I said - Germans walk. Even the kids walk. And by walking I mean walking some pretty impressive distances! Up and down some pretty impressive hills. And across some pretty impressive valleys. And from what I could tell, they weren't complaining about foot problems! So, I took a closer look. Did a little asking around. Got some good advise. And was told to 'jus' go to the Yo store' and I should 'find jus' vat you need! So, I went. Did some 'in store' field testing. And found 'jus' vat' I needed! I found something more than walking shoes. Something less than a hiking boots. I found shoes that were - just right. And I wore those shoes everyday. For over five years. In all kinds of terrain - woods, fields, sand, snow, ice, pavement, rock, trail, no trail. Believe me, those shoes took a real pounding. But my feet did not! Those shoes were amazing! No more aching feet! No more heel pain. No more ankle pain. Or knee pain. Or leg pain. Carry a hefty back pack? No problem! No foot pain meant no back pain. Or lower back pain. Or hip pain. Yeah - those shoes solved a whole lot of nagging aching problems for me. And right out of the box too! No break-in. Perfect. Yeah. I sure miss those shoes. I have no idea who made them. Or where they were made. I sure wish I did. But the shoes I been wearing the last couple a hiking seasons work pretty darn good. And right out of the box too! Now - I don't give them or myself nearly the pounding I used to back then. But since 1980 - I still go way out my way to find the semi hiker / walker that wont make my feet hurt. And so far, that formulae and my choices have worked. And worked well. That's how I found the Keenes. And like I said - for the last 4 hike seasons - I got no complaints. They just looked a little funny at first!" Note: at Coffee Ridge Hiking.com, we don't pretend that any pair of shoes or boots can or will cure chronic aches & pains. However - We do know that pain from the lower back down - often starts from the bottom of the foot up! And the first step in alleviating or eliminating that pain is with correct footwear.
